The guidelines address treatment interventions, monitoring, and treatment thresholds that are specific to TBI or that address a risk that is greater in patients with TBI.

The Brain Trauma Foundation (BTF) updated its guidelines for the management of severe TBI in 2016 [ 15 ]. The intent of these guidelines has been to use existing evidence to provide recommendations for management in order to lessen heterogeneity and improve patient outcomes.
